Hello,

Are you a member of American Atheists who is interested in volunteering your valuable time as a director? We’re always looking for current members of American Atheists who are interested in just that. Even if your state already has a state director, we may need a volunteer as an assistant or regional director.

Assistant directors simply provide assistance to the state director to share the workload and provide backup if the state director is not available. I performed as an assistant director in Arizona for three years. That official title did not exist back then, but I fulfilled that duty anyway.

Regional directors are usually located in an area that is remotely located from the state director’s geographic area. For instance: the California state director is in San Francisco, but we need a regional director for Southern California to handle issues local to that area. The geographic size of the state does not matter in most cases. We have a regional director for Northern New Jersey.

So what is the main resource a person needs to be a director? Time and effort. A director can invest from five to ten hours a week towards director duties. Sometimes more time may be required depending on the situation. Most of the time, a director simply needs to monitor their area of interest for any issues that occur. Some areas don’t have many issues, other areas have quite a few. So having time available is an important requirement. Typically, five to ten hours a week.

There are two main requirements to be a director: you must be a member of American Atheists for at least one year, and you must have the right attitude. We want members who are enthusiastic and ready to make a difference. If there is an issue that needs attention, we need a person who will tackle that issue with enthusiasm and see it through to its resolution. Directors must stay appraised on the political situation in their area of responsibility. Keeping an ear to the ground is a must. The sooner we find out about an issue, the easier it is to deal with, the more time we have to get organized, and the more of chance of a successful outcome. Attitude is key.

If you are a member of American Atheists and would like to meet this challenge, please start by filling out the form below. I will send you additional information on director’s duties and the application process. There are additional requirements to be director. That information will be provided to eligible persons who apply.

If you are not a member of American Atheists and wish to support our cause, please join our organization by visiting http://www.atheists.org/membership.html. That’s one of the best means of support you can provide. Once you join our organization, we would love to have you volunteer with us. Contact your state director and give them your support. If there is no director for your state, contact me using the form below and we’ll see what we can do.

So if you are a member of American Atheists, are enthusiastic about making a difference, and you have the time to volunteer, please contact us by filling out the form below. You may just make all the difference in the world.

Thank you,
